Animal research remains the mainstay of pre-clinical therapeutic validation throughout the world. The most recent statistics indicate that over four-million animals are bred per annum for research purposes in Great Britain and over two-hundred million worldwide. Furthermore, it is estimated that over 500,000 scientists are actively involved in animal experimentation globally. However, there is a lack of animal management software that allows for both maintenance of breeding and experimental record tracking – with researchers stuck in the archaic system of pen and paper. Overwatch will be the first research animal management system that facilitates both colony maintenance and experimental record tracking. Moreover, the design and development of Overwatch is centred on four core principles: usability with minimal training; cross-platform access; intelligent services and accessibility from anywhere in the world.
