Optalysys is developing ground-breaking optical processing technology. We offers step-changing advances in how physical processes are modelled and resulting large data sets are analysed with direct relevance to science, engineering and “Big Data”. In these areas it is becoming increasingly common for traditional silicon computing to fall short of offering the high performance computing power required e.g. aerofoil design, weather forecasting, MRI data analysis and new technologies like quantum computing.

The first product is a Biological Sequence Alignment Device due in 2017, capable of analysing large nucleotide and protein sequence databases for matches and patterns. We use light rather than electricity as the processing medium so our units operate at high speed and at a very low running cost using a standard mains supply. Subsequent products will perform mathematical functions such as partial differential equations.

We have completed our third-generation demonstrable prototype.
