Unbox (YC S21) is a testing and debugging platform for ML models. Unbox allows ML teams to find failures and biases, figure out the root causes, and create unit tests to ensure they stay fixed. *Problem* A high-quality machine learning model is essential for production-level applications. A bad model in healthcare can lead to wrong diagnoses. A bad financial model can lead to overwhelming losses. A bad model for a customer service chatbot can lead to massive churn. The lack of understanding of the failure and success patterns of a model lead to a broken pipeline. For example, if you don’t know where your current model is failing, you won’t know which data to collect next - making it an expensive and time-consuming process. This also intensely affects all the phases of the pipeline, i.e. training, deployment and monitoring. It turns out, there are massive biases and failure modes hidden within industry-standard and academic-grade models and datasets that are released to millions of people.
