A democratic lottery is the way that representatives are supposed to be selected in a democracy. It's the original way to select representative in a democracy, going back thousands of years to ancient Athens. And it's the way we should be selecting members of Congress.

That's because a democratic lottery does two very important things very well:

The first thing it does, is it cuts out the corruption, division, and dysfunction that come with elections. There's no campaigns, no stump speeches, no attack ads, no super pacs, no political parties even. Why? Because none of that makes any difference with a lottery.

And the second important thing it does is it gives us real representation. A democratic lottery calls on the service of everyday people—people who look like us and live like us. And it ensures that this group is a true reflection of the population. You have rich and poor, young and old, liberals and conservatives and moderates, etc.
