Ocean allows people who have been in the same building in the last day to post a public message, like a tweet, visible to other people who have also been in that location recently. This structure of nearby communication enables finding a lost item by posting a description of the item. Hashtags are used to filter by characteristics like a #blue #nalgene or by category #lostandfound. When located by a third party they can tag @username and she’ll get a push notification. The version I’ve built supports posting an anonymous compliment to anyone on Twitter.

A nearby network has many interesting extension contingent on market penetration such as realtime nearby chat and surfacing of user profiles.
