In 2018, I was browsing jobs on AngelList, eager to start the next chapter of my career. I stumbled across a company I had never heard of — Notion — and had no idea that this job posting was about to change my life. The first thing that struck me about Notion was its humility. The founders are honest and direct about how the product and company need to improve, and don’t ask anyone to “drink the kool aid.” There’s very little ego about fundraising announcements or revenue numbers, a breath of fresh air compared to other startups I’ve worked at. Even though I started in an entry level position on the customer support team, I’ve been given countless opportunities to try new things, even with zero prior experience: leading product launches, producing YouTube videos, writing emails that get sent to millions of inboxes, and so much more. After a year of closing support tickets and helping answer customer questions over Twitter, I was given the opportunity to join the marketing team — the biggest jump of my entire career. But I’m not the only one who’s been able to grow into a new position within the company. I’ve watched many of my colleagues get promoted from the customer support team to the sales team, from the sales team to the marketing team, individual contributors to managers, and more.
