In the same way that Craigslist, eBay and Etsy transformed our conceptualization and access to the global marketplace and removed the risk from individuals to becoming entrepreneurs, NINAYO, with over 7,000 active users, is redefining the boundaries of the Tanzanian agricultural market and farmers’ perception of risk.

NINAYO is a virtual marketplace where large and small agricultural producers can post their products in Swahili or English via internet or SMS. These posts are searchable by heat map or simple query of agricultural businesses by price, location, type and quantity. This process is similar to selling a bike on Craigslist - you have much greater success finding the right bike buyer if you share it on the site than simply putting the word out in your neighborhood.
