Sophia is a patent-pending Industrial Network Anomaly Detection (INAD) system that is the result of extensive collaboration between the US Department of Energy, Battelle Energy Alliance and the cybersecurity experts of Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Commercially available exclusively through NexDefense, Sophia detects deviations from normal automation or systems controls operations that may signify an attempt to intrude or discover systems. By maintaining real-time insight over internal and external threats, Sophia equips security professionals to increase compliance without sacrificing productivity or performance.

Sophia originated in response to the concerns of energy and defense organizations, and recommendations of engineers assessing threats and response protocols.
