Construction is one of the least productive and digitized industries. There is a productivity gap of 1.6 trillion dollars between construction and other industries and construction produces 39% of all waste globally. One of the most promising opportunities to move the industry forward is prefabrication, allowing us to build up to 50% faster and 20% cheaper, while reducing waste by up to 90%. We believe that optimizing planning, design and procurement with a focus on prefabrication will not only improve existing uses of this construction technique, but drive overall demand. The implications of this are significant, with only a single percentage point of waste reduction across the construction industry being equal to more than 20 million tonnes of waste every year. To achieve our vision, Modulize is developing an element extraction and generative design engine, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution that will unlock the potential for prefabrication and modular construction. With our component extractor, manufacturers and contractors can process models to automatically decompose them into elements that a manufacturer can use to easily develop element specifications that fit the design.
