Biotech is on the verge of a revolution. Breakthroughs such as the advent of CRISPR and systems for fast and efficient multi-omic sequencing in combination with structural advances in machine learning are unleashing the ability to interrogate human biology in unprecedented ways. However, the biotech industry and drug development industry have yet to bring these latest developments to bear. 97% of cancer drugs entering the clinic never get approved due to either lack of efficacy or toxic side effects and this is often due to a critical misunderstanding of their true mechanisms of action (MOAs). Meliora is building a technological platform that combines advanced biological and computational methods to pinpoint drug MOAs, filling in a fundamental missing link in drug development methodology for the first time.

Meliora Therapeutics’ vision is to bring the latest advancements in molecular biology and machine learning together to fight cancer. By building a world class, diverse, multidisciplinary team we will build the first true multi-omics target discovery and development platform, enabling us to develop new therapies that significantly improve clinical outcomes. The founding team of Meliora includes CEO David Li (1st business hire at Benchling, GS, KKR, Penn Life Sciences and Management), scientific founder Dr. Jason Sheltzer (Faculty at Yale School of Medicine, Presidential Early Career Award, Forbes 30u30), Joan Smith (Sr. Staff engineer at Google, MIT Physics), and Zach Owen (Data Scientist Tech Lead at Verily, previous ML startup technical co-founder, MIT PhD). The scientific foundation for our vision was established in Jason's lab and published in Science Translational Medicine in 2019. Meliora is moving with urgency to capitalize on the opportunity ahead of us, and is fresh off a seed round financing. We are backed by leading funds who were early investors in world class companies such as Gilead, Recursion, insitro, Benchling, and others.
