As many as 31 million Americans do not eat breakfast. Studies have shown that skipping meals causes metabolic changes that could lead to diabetes in the long term. Long hours and a frenzied workplace culture have also contributed to the rise of unhealthy eating habits and lack of work-life balance. Convenience is a major factor for those who don’t skip meals, and it shows in the rise of online food delivery services. And yet, even with the rise in popularity of meal delivery and meal prep services over the past decade, Americans continue to skip meals because they’re too busy, running late, don’t feel hungry, or simply forget to eat. Those who order food delivery often desire a greater variety of cuisine, particularly in major cities where kitchen space is often lacking. The process of discovering new restaurants is a time- and resource-intensive process of trial-and-error, especially when there are too many options to choose from. It’s no wonder we often default to something that we’ve already ordered before, because we know is a good choice. Americans, especially young working professionals earning moderate to high incomes, want less time worrying about where their meals are coming from, and more time with their hobbies and families.
