As much as 50% of antibiotics given in hospitals are either not needed or given incorrectly. Many hospitals don't have Infectious Disease Specialists. MDstewardship was started by Infectious Disease Physicians to help hospitals in rural areas use antibiotics correctly. Our specialists are available to discuss antibiotics with the on-site pharmacists / providers to help ensure antibiotics are given correctly. MDstewardship started working with hospitals March 2017, and is currently working with hospitals in 4 states. Our specialists are available to help discuss proper antibiotic use, develop hospital policy, stay up-to-date with current practices, fulfill new national hospital requirements for an antimicrobial stewardship programs by The Joint Commission.
