This year a young man named Alec was diagnosed with diabetes but couldn’t afford the rising costs of insulin. After losing his insurance coverage, he began to ration his insulin by the day. Despite searching for solutions, Alec was not able to find a low-cost alternative for his medication. Days later, he was found dead in his apartment. Unfortunately, more people would be alive if insulin-- in fact, if all medication-- was more affordable for all people. It’s cases like these that drove us to develop MatchMeds, a platform to connect patients like Alec to the medication they desperately need. 2 months ago, MatchMeds was selected as the first place winner for the social innovation track at the 2019 Diamond Challenge Youth Entrepreneurial Summit where we were selected out of an applicant pool of over a thousand by an international board of judges. We’ve received enormous encouragement and funding that will help us make our vision a reality.
