Thread count has long been used as a tool by marketers to sell subpar bedsheets. To get a really high quality set of sheets you really need more than just thread count. You need to take into account the different elements that go into making a great set of sheets, particularly the quality of materials, design and weave.

Most bedsheets advertised with a thread count in excess of 500 are probably using lower quality fibers that don’t feel as soft and don’t last very long. The ideal thread count for a bedsheet made with high quality fibers is between 300 to 400.
