At Meta Innovations, we are trying to leverage the latest trends in mobile technology to bring the best possible IoT products for smart homes. There are many smart home companies based on proprietary hardware and significant number of unique protocols.
Our vision is that no technology and protocol can survive in this domain unless it is
in-built into mobile phones, energy efficient to run sensors and switches that can operate on cell batteries for multiple years. It would also need to support mesh network to extend the range of the radio.
Our vision is that, eventually BLE will become the defacto standard for smart homes and other related IoT markets. If there is a Wifi low energy version that becomes accepted, that might become a threat. We believe BLE will relegate similar protocols in the immediate future.
