Blockchain- and hardware-enabled data security allows firms and dApps to process their users’ data in a secure, privacy-preserving manner that aids compliance with privacy regulations like the GDPR. It combines the best of both worlds: the security and trust of blockchain with the speed and power of enterprise hardware. Data is shared and processed within so-called Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), inside which computations and analyses can run while remaining invisible to any other process on the processor, the operating system, or any other privileged access. Computation within TEEs is separated from attestation (i.e., the process of verifying the genuineness of the data and process), which is carried out and registered on a blockchain.
