Hemera Biosciences has developed a unique treatment for dry age related macular degeneration (AMD). By understanding the genetic background of the disease, which is linked to a part of the immune system called the complement cascade, we have created a modification in a naturally occurring protein that, with a single intravitreal injection performed in the office setting, should provide long term protection against dry AMD progression.
