GroGuru careers
GroGuru is all about strategic water management for commercial farmers. They help farmers make more money by increasing crop yield and more efficiently using water, and other scarce resources, in a more sustainable way. The GroGuru team is passionate about this because they care about the planet, they care about food security, they care about water conversation, and they care about sustainability for our children and our grandchildren.
GroGuru provides hardware-enabled software as a service (SaaS), where they collect data from soil sensors at the root zone of the crop, pass that up to the Cloud, apply machine learning and artificial intelligence, add other information from their partners like weather forecasts, rainfall, crop models and applied irrigation water, and then provides insights to farmers about when and how much to optimally irrigate their crops.
Typical results is a 10 to 20 percent increase in crop yield, and a 10 to 20 percent savings on input costs. So, what this means to farmers is that they get a less than one season payback period for the technology that we deploy, and they also get a 6 to 8X, six to eight times, Return on Investment (ROI) every single year. GroGuru has a patented wireless underground system, the GroGuru WUGS, that enables the permanent installation of soil sensors even in annual field crops like corn and soybeans, a 30X scalability increase over competitive alternatives.
GroGuru has weathered the ‘Covid storm’ where many of its competitors have not. Many have gone out of business, others have been bought, and GroGuru is still going strong.
In 2020, GroGuru's revenues were relatively flat with 2019 due to Covid headwinds, but management believes that the market was down 25 to 30 percent, so they gained market share in a down market. In 2021, GroGuru resumed revenue growth, and grew revenue by about 30 percent year-over-year. More importantly, they doubled their subscriber base.
