Gooseberry Planet (GP) is bringing a novel approach of using gaming technology to improving children’s awareness of the dangers and risks of their online activities. In the course of a familiar game, children are exposed to online issues requiring a response such as meeting strangers, bullying, grooming and sexual exploitation. Children love playing games and GP is a fun way to present internet safety situations to them. The App facilitates the participation of parents to discuss with their children the issues raised in the game and to monitor their reactions to the situations. Internet safety is now part of Personal, Social, Health Economic (PSHE) education in schools, but many schools don’t yet know how to teach the subject. GP sells a suite of three apps to schools, linking children, teachers and parents.
