Transparent, cost-effective, evidence-backed charity recommendations for donors

GiveWell publishes a shortlist of organizations we recommend giving to. These are the organizations that we believe represent the very best giving opportunities we know of, based on our criteria of cost-effectiveness, evidence, room for more funding, and transparency. We refresh this list twice per year. In 2017, we tracked more than $100 million in donations to those charities as a direct result of our research.

We aim to be as transparent as possible with our research and recommendations. You can read more about our research on each of our recommended charities here givewell.org/charities/top-charities.

Any donor can come to our website, read our recommendations, and donate to our recommendations or to support GiveWell's own operating costs. We're currently working to figure out how to both attract more new donors and how to best retain existing donors.
