The world’s population is projected to increase by 13.6% or to 8.5 billion people by the year 2030. To feed this increased population, we need to use our resources and our land more efficiently. The use of technology for accuracy and efficiency in “Precision Agriculture”, is on the rise with the continued entry of new tools and the pending arrival of 5G wireless service in 2021. But in the field, the actual field, farmers and growers are still using paper, pencils and several spreadsheets. foris.io was founded by Victoria Vegis, an experienced Bay Area marketing executive who studied Agricultural Economics at Michigan State before joining GM’s Saturn as they shook up the auto industry. Victoria is flanked by Brian Fowler, a veteran of the marketing research / opinion polling survey technology sector who most recently was COO for Survox, one of the original platforms for survey operations. Since the company’s founding in 2015, foris.io has initiated partnerships and projects with agriculture and environmental science professors at the Universities of California, Davis & Berkeley and vendors within precision agriculture. Development work completed is limited. For the 2018 growing season, we are working closely with a commercial farming operation so that we may observe, test, and develop our solution with live data. A large commercial farm in the Sacramento area is providing valuable insights into current operations as well as four actual test fields which will be growing tomatoes in Spring 2018.
