Our mission is to make electric vehicles (EV) safer and more affordable by replacing automotive friction brakes and associated mandatory safety systems with in-wheel motors + software.

In order to achieve this a breakthrough in electric motor design was required. This next generation motor technology also solves two keys problems for hybrid electric powertrains:

1- Hybrid electric powertrains suffer from packaging constraints when a multi-speed gearbox and an electric motor are integrated.

2- Rare-earth permanent magnet electric motor designs, commonly used in hybrids, offer limited scope for cost reduction.

Solution:

Our solution is a 'pancake' type Axial Flux Induction Motor (AFIM), with a form factor similar to a brake disc/drum or clutch assembly, that is compact enough to be integrated within a gearbox bell housing yet has the same peak torque as a Tesla Roadster motor while simultaneously eliminating the requirement for rare-earth PM to achieve satisfactory torque density.
