Drone Scan is a barcode or RFID scanning system fitted to drones for doing automatic scanning of items in large warehouses.
Scanning items sitting high up on shelves in a warehouse is typically done by a human holding a mobile barcode scanner, lifted up by a reach truck to perform the scan.
During stock counting of large warehouses, this effort might be repeated 40 000 times in one weekend.
The Drone Scan system is 2 to 20 times faster at counting stock than the manual method. This means warehouses are back online quicker, and less overtime needs to be paid for weekend stock counts. There is a measurable ROI from month 4.
No expensive fixed indoor navigation system needs to be installed in the warehouse, drones are equipped with sensors and imaging devices to help them navigate around the warehouse, their position being constantly monitored and updated by the barcodes they scan. Drone Scan can be used to perform scanning services or installed on-premises.
