Culture and benefits at Doss
Culture overview
# We have operating principles. We think “company values” are not a useful way to tell you about who we are and what we care about. Values are not instructive and they are only understood in hindsight after studying how one’s actions and intentions match up. Our preference is to tell you how we operate. 1. Observe-Orient-Decide-Act (O-O-D-A). Tighten this loop and build intuitive feel. 2. Go and see 3. Reality is surprisingly malleable, bend it to your will 4. Excellence is mundane, it is just a set of qualitatively differentiated habits that compound 5. Everyone is technical 6. Be a steward. Every action is a vote to push us higher, reinforce the status quo, or undermine the work of those around you. # We work together - Very soon we’ll be moving into a dedicated office in downtown San Francisco (SOMA / Design District) - Once we do so, our working model will be “default in-person”. Default in-person means: you’re in the office unless there is a specific reason not to be i.e. you’re onsite with customers, you’re at a conference, you’re not feeling well. - Why? We think that this is critical to correctly set the direction and tempo for the company in our early days. Building connections with one another is just as important as building the product and doing so in person is a qualitatively better experience from doing so over Zoom. - We care deeply about output and results, so we’re trying to stack the deck in favor of that by doing our work together, in-person.
