Small books, not bricks
The popularity of Young Adult books shows that readers want smaller, complete stories that aren't 600 pages and multiple volumes. The current state of publishing does not allow for smaller books or give unknown authors an opportunity due the need to support the corporation with known authors and large tomes. DKeeley Press wants to specialize in books 50,000 words or under; a story that can be read on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. The reading market needs new stories and new ideas, taking a chance on unknown authors and writers who can't get past the gatekeepers at the Big 5 publishing houses. This is a niche market for readers but one that is definitely needed.
