Desitouch.com was a pioneer and the 1st business to legally stream Indian music to reach a million monthly streams. It attracted some paying customers who were happy to pay. The desktop application was beautiful & well received, the business model is tough. Ultimately, the venture in 2009-2012 was too early, mobile/data was not mature enough. Even in 2016, the market is still unsupported in India. 90% music is still traded on rampant USB/MP3/FTP/Youtube piracy & no copyright controls or professional organization of labels, royalty boards etc. The second issue that still exists is the concentration of a single label controlling 70%+ of Bollywood music. Dhingana well-funded competitor with silicon valley $, had to shut down due to the same label pulling the entire library from them unannounced and for no reason. It remains to be seen in the future if a player can overcome label and industry issue, perhaps Amazon or Apple can.
