Circle is a social media platform that takes on a refreshing and unique perspective on social networking. Compared to today’s most popular social networks, Circle strives to make social media a tool for growth instead of a source of distraction. Current social networks are proven to be detrimental to people’s productivity and confidence—scientific journals have published studies directly highlighting a positive correlation with rate of depression and time spent on social media. These forms of social media capitalize on their users’ desire for acceptance, which has been proven to have adverse effects on motivation and personal growth. Conversely, Circle valorizes self-actualization and self-optimization by utilizing today’s need for social recognition as a powerful incentive to push our users to accomplish goals they never thought were possible. Every year billions of new endeavors are sought out by ambitious individuals; approximately 92% quit within the first month and half. This statistic indicates that people desire improvement, but find it easier to give in to their poor work ethic and habits, which consequently limits their performance in both their personal and professional life. This problem is multi-faceted—there is a lack of incentive, motivation, and support. That’s where Circle steps in. Our platform allows users to learn from others’ personal and professional journeys, as well as engage with private and public group goals which amplifies one’s motivation. We have designed Circle to cater to all our users’ progress tracking needs, going as far as allowing private goals so users don’t feel pressured to share anything they don’t want to. Circle was created out of necessity after a team of two students identified a gap in the productivity market, as well as deep-rooted fundamental problems in today’s most popular social media platforms. Allowing for customizable goals expands our reach, and welcomes every individual who yearns to growth.
