Who we are, is often defined by the work we do. It gives our lives meaning, it gives us our identity. And yet, out of all the objects that we interact with at work, the only thing that truly helps us work better is computers. If it wasn’t for advances in computing, we would be working just as people did a hundred years ago. This is because every other object we interact with has remained primitive. Look around, a desk is just a primitive surface to hold things up, an article of clothing is just a surface on the skin, a bag is a primitive surface for carrying things. But then, what if every surface we interact with, can be much more than what they are now? We spent three years creating desks that understand how the user works using sensors and insights derived through machine learning to improve the user's state of mind throughout the day. This is the kind of potential we think we can realize for the world by evolving these primitive objects. Here's a glimpse of two things we are working on now - work focused clothing more comfortable than anything else out there and beautiful carry-accessories that opens only when you touch it. Fundamentally, what we do is evolve primitive objects using great design and great tech, one product at a time. Everything we create is to help people work better. And, because we see this purpose clearly, it's clear who we make them for - the people who truly love their work. This is Charcoal.
