It operates in two segments: tires and diversified products. The tires segment develops, manufactures, and markets tires and tubes, and automotive parts for passenger cars, trucks, buses, construction and mining vehicles, commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery, aircraft, motorcycles and scooters, racing cars, karts, utility carts, subways, and monorails. The company also supplies tires to airlines and manufacturers of commercial aircraft, airbus, and boeing. Bridgestone Corporation was founded by Shojiro Ishibashi in 1931. The company has collaborated with Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd.
