Culture overview
As Founder, I've had my share of excellent and awful cultures. And despite any culture I've been a part of, there are a few things that speak to me most about the culture I yearn to see realized in Bookscribs. From 2003 - 2013, during my time in the US Army, I experienced a radical culture shift from the time I joined in 1996 until I retired in 2015. There were amazing things about my time as a US Army recruiter, in particular, but there were things I can't believe happened in the environment I worked in for all those years. I've found that three things enabled me and those I served with the ability to weather (survived and thrive) in some of the most life-altering times I've had the incredible fortune to endure. Given the Army's mission to recruit hundreds of thousands of men and women for two protracted wars, I realized the keys to a fantastic culture boil down to three things we must all strive to BE, KNOW, DO. Command high professional and personal standards daily. We must BE undeniably world-class. We must cultivate a human touch that is empathic, conscious, professionally courtesy, and creatively cynical of all things that we KNOW and don't know. Two fundamental questions drive all innovations we create: What if and Why Not? We must DO good morally, ethically, and socially while we build and share our technology.
