As employees or candidates, our conscience weighed heavily from not knowing if we were being valued fairly. As managers and leaders, the overwhelming process with underwhelming amount of data to effectively reward and justify compensation policies. In today's age, people are too talented, companies too ambitious to suffer from unnecessary pay inequity or turnover; in that sense, Barley is in fact our rallying cry for a better future. Our Guiding Principles: Focus on the Customer We focus on building for the customer and their needs vs. anchoring to other solutions. We obsess over understanding our customers' challenges, knowing that the best path to solving them is through by listening to and collaborating with them. Be Relentlessly Curious We believe that being relentlessly curious and asking the right questions helps us get to the best answers. It all starts with understanding "the why" and seeking the context behind an underlying problem (or anything we do, for that matter). Have a Bias for Action To make our vision a reality, we recognize that speed matters. We're not afraid to take action more quickly (especially when decisions are reversible and don't require deep analysis). We understand that iteration is a good way to keep things moving forward. When it comes to timelines, we think and talk in days and not weeks. Pursue Continuous Improvement We focus on continuously improving ourselves, our company, our product, and also one another. We do this by seeking feedback and, respectfully, providing feedback to others. We question the status quo and challenge one another to raise the bar. Keep Things Simple We respect the importance of details, but we relentlessly question whether things can be simplified. We limit the amount of details, but we make every detail perfect; this way we can deliver simple, innovative, and powerful solutions.
