The product, a “Smart Dam” (more precisely, the Autonomous, Adaptive, Concealed Flood Protection System, US patent 8,500,365), is designed to protect a single building (or a group of buildings), infrastructure (e.g., roads, railroads, etc.) from flood. Unlike big permanent cement dams, it does not block access to a property being protected, it is much more reliable and solid than temporary water barriers (such as sand bags). More precisely, it possesses the following unique set of features:
1) it is permanently installed around a building; no emergency deployment is necessary;
2) it is water impermeable;
3) it is concealed under the ground;
4) it is adaptive, that is, the height of the dam is automatically adjusted to match the level of advancing water;
5) it is autonomous, that is, no human actions are required to enable the system’s functionality;
6) it does not require electric or any other power to operate.
