Astrona Biotechnologies is developing an easy-to-use, hand-held pathogen detection device for point of need food safety testing. Current technologies require a culturing step, which can take days. Food production companies have to choose between building and staffing in-house labs or contracting third party service companies for their food safety testing needs. With our device, a culturing step is not required, reducing detection times to under 1 hour, providing companies with the means to screen their products for safety without sacrificing shelf life. Our device uses proprietary technology to capture and amplify a signal molecule from RNAs derived from bacteria, viruses and fungi.
