Ashored is pioneering a new way to commercially fish: coiling and containing fishing lines that would normally extend throughout the water column in a stationary position on the ocean floor until fishers return to the area to release the gear to the ocean surface. Ashored has taken a user-focused approach to developing its Rope On-Command (ROC) fishing systems and considers every aspect of how a fisherman interacts with fishing gear by thoroughly testing ROC systems through pilot projects in Canada and the US. By working closely with the users, Ashored is developing a solution that is simple for fishermen and allows them to fish in habitat-protected fishing zones when they otherwise would be facing a zone/grid closure. Ashored takes a similar approach within its team as it does with customers; the opinions and skillsets of each team member are valued in team discussions and each expertise takes a leadership role in evaluating the feasibility of milestones and key decisions.
