Ampyx Power develops Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWES) for the utility scale, grid-connected power generation market. Our systems are intended for deployment in wind farms, both on- and offshore, to harvest the untapped energy potential of winds at higher altitudes. By eliminating the need for material-intensive towers and foundations, AWES provides a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for harvesting wind energy.

Multi-megawatt AWES systems are well-suited for floating offshore sites, offering a highly competitive Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) whereas smaller systems are most advantageous for sites further inland with strong wind shear effects (wind speed increases with altitude). Offshore ‘repowering’ sites, where end-of-life electrical infrastructure and existing foundations can be repurposed for extended life, and remote onshore sites, where transportation and installation are challenging and cost prohibitive, increase access to existing wind resources.
