Amicus matches pro bono cases to lawyers and law students. What we do isn’t complicated, but why it isn’t being done is. It’s not complicated because the problem is too difficult, it’s complicated because there hasn’t been any incentive to change the status quo.

We are working to close the access to justice gap by making it cheaper and easier for legal aid organizations to leverage existing technologies, and we’re making it faster and easier for attorneys and law students to find, accept, and manage pro bono cases. Prior solutions to closing the access to justice gap have only attempted to address one side of a dual-market issue: legal aid organizations. These prior solutions failed to acknowledge and solve the interest gap that exists among lawyers. Through the use of lean theory, machine learning, and big data, we make pro bono work more collaborative, automate routine tasks, and add valuable insight into when, where, and why pro bono services are most needed.
