Afterword careers

We're Effie and Zack. We started our careers working in tech at companies like Google, Shopify, and Workday. We started Afterword after Effie’s dad died in 2018 when she planned her first funeral. Zack experienced loss when his mentor died suddenly and he didn’t know where to find support.

Our main motivation is to help families through the worst of times. We started by helping hundreds of families honor & remember their loved ones during the pandemic through virtual and livestream memorials.

Afterword's software helps funeral directors manage their back office and meet families where they are—both in-person and online. And we help families directly by giving them the information they need to make important decisions around funeral planning & grief resources.

Our dedication to this work is deeply personal.
