About the job

Here's The Role

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has been serving Texans since 1934, when the state Legislature tasked us with improving life across the region. Back then, we built the chain of dams that tamed the unpredictable lower Colorado River and brought electricity to rural Central Texas for the very first time.

Fast forward to today, and that mission still fuels everything we do.

Our Transmission Technical Support Group (TSG) group is seeking an intern for the summer of 2027. As an intern in TSG, you will work under the direction of the Energy Management System (EMS) Advanced Applications subject matter expert (SME) while they strive to continuously develop new tools for the reliability of the electrical grid. You will access complex real-time transmission & substation operation models for control room situational awareness enhancement projects.

The ideal intern candidate has not only an interest in utility and control room environment, but a passion for improving the electrical grid and reliability. Preference to majors including electrical and power engineering, but other engineering majors are open to consideration. The ideal candidate will be pursuing or intending to pursue grad school.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Develop custom Python code to automate the PI Asset Framework model update process
  • Create sophisticated AVEVA PI Vision displays to enhance operational situational awareness capabilities for LCRA Control Rooms
  • Create PI API to facilitate intelligent data analytics
  • Assist with Ansible Automation tool implementation and user case testing with EMS Applications Repo patching processes.

How You’re Qualified

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university/college program in senior year or has recently completed senior year (i.e., summer after graduating with a bachelor's degree).

How You’ll Stand Out

  • Major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with solid Python coding and SQL+ script development experience
  • Exposure to advanced EMS and AVEVA PI applications software platforms

How We’ll Support You

Meaningful, hands-on experience, mentorship from industry leaders, and competitive pay, plus access to perks like a 401(k) and EAP.
