About the job

IT Lead Engineer – Cloud Platform

Remote - USA

SUMMARY:

Seeking a hands-on IT Lead Engineer – Cloud Platform to lead the vision, design, and evolution of enterprise platform ecosystems across cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps, Kubernetes, and data platforms. This role is responsible for defining architecture strategy, governance models, and engineering standards while ensuring platforms are secure, scalable, and developer friendly.

The Senior Architect operates at an enterprise level, influencing multiple teams and domains, driving platform modernization, and ensuring alignment with business, security, and compliance objectives while remaining selectively hands on in critical areas.

Technology stack

• Kubernetes, specifically AWS EKS

• Open-source tooling, including Grafana and Loki, and open-source DevSecOps tools (RAPID-certified)

• Crossplane is used more than Terraform. They use both, but a lead is expected to know Crossplane, and experience with it is a strong plus.

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Cloud Architecture (AWS)

  • Define enterprise AWS architecture patterns for multi account, secure, and scalable environments.
  • Govern infrastructure design across compute, storage, networking, IAM, and data services.
  • Set standards for resilience (HA/DR), cost optimization, and security posture.
  • Provide architectural oversight for RDS, OpenSearch, messaging, and distributed systems.

Cloud Native & Kubernetes Strategy

  • Define and evolve Kubernetes platform strategy (EKS) across environments.
  • Establish standards for GitOps, Helm, multi cluster operations, and platform abstraction.
  • Drive adoption of secure, scalable cloud native patterns.
  • Ensure integration of runtime security, observability, and policy enforcement.

DevSecOps & Secure SDLC Leadership

  • Define and govern enterprise DevSecOps strategy, standards, and operating models.
  • Architect secure CI/CD frameworks with built in quality, security, and compliance gates.
  • Establish enterprise patterns for software supply chain security, including SCA, artifact governance, and policy enforcement.
  • Standardize and oversee tooling across SonarQube, JFrog (Artifactory/Xray), Jenkins, and GitOps (Argo CD).
  • Drive shift left security adoption and developer enablement.
  • Align DevSecOps practices with security, risk, and compliance requirements.

Data & Integration Architecture

  • Define architecture for data platforms and ETL ecosystems (e.g., Talend).
  • Ensure secure, resilient integration patterns across databases, messaging, APIs, and file transfer systems.
  • Establish standards for data reliability, observability, and performance optimization.

Platform Engineering & Developer Experience

  • Drive adoption of Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) and self service capabilities.
  • Define reusable platform services, APIs, and golden paths for development teams.
  • Partner with Developer Experience teams to reduce cognitive load and improve productivity.

Reliability, Operations & Governance

  • Define enterprise standards for observability, incident management, and SRE practices.
  • Drive improvements in availability, performance, and operational maturity.
  • Establish governance frameworks for cost management, security compliance, and risk mitigation.

Leadership & Influence

  • Act as a technical authority across the organization, influencing architecture decisions at scale.
  • Lead cross functional initiatives spanning infrastructure, security, and application teams.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects, raising the overall engineering bar.
  • Translate business objectives into scalable technical strategies and roadmaps.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in cloud, platform engineering, DevSecOps, or infrastructure architecture roles.
  • Proven track record designing and scaling enterprise cloud platforms on AWS.
  • Deep expertise in DevSecOps, secure SDLC, and software supply chain security.
  • Advanced experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and cloud native architectures at scale.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins), SonarQube, JFrog Artifactory/Xray, and GitOps.
  • Demonstrated ability to define architecture standards, governance, and enterprise frameworks.

Experience leading large scale transformations and influencing multi team/platform strategy.
