Senior Data Architect

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the strategic design, governance, and evolution of our enterprise data landscape. This role is responsible for defining enterprise-wide data architecture standards, governance frameworks, and target-state data models across a large-scale Oracle on-premises environment.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Oracle databases, Erwin Data Modeler, Data Governance, and Master Data Management (MDM), along with a proven track record of architecting solutions for high-volume, enterprise-scale environments. This position serves as the bridge between business strategy and technical execution, driving best practices while mentoring data professionals across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Architecture & Strategy

• Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture vision, standards, and roadmap.
• Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data architecture frameworks aligned with business objectives.
• Establish enterprise-wide data modeling standards, naming conventions, and governance practices.
• Manage and govern the enterprise Erwin model repository, including version control, subject area organization, and model consistency.
• Partner with business leaders, architects, and technology teams to translate strategic initiatives into scalable data solutions.
• Architect Oracle database environments to support large-scale data volumes, performance optimization, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
• Support enterprise adoption of modern data access and virtualization technologies, including Denodo.

Data Modeling & Architecture Governance

• Lead the design and review of complex, cross-functional data models for enterprise systems.
• Oversee architectural reviews and approvals for data models developed across multiple teams.
• Guide efforts to modernize and rationalize legacy Oracle database structures.
• Ensure alignment between OLTP, normalized, dimensional, and analytical data models.
• Establish governance around referential integrity, data quality, and architectural consistency.

Data Governance & Compliance

• Contribute to enterprise data governance initiatives, including metadata management, data lineage, business glossaries, and data dictionaries.
• Define policies, standards, and procedures supporting data governance programs.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, privacy, and industry requirements.
• Conduct enterprise-level impact assessments and risk analysis related to data architecture changes.

Master Data Management (MDM)

• Support the development and implementation of enterprise MDM strategies and frameworks.
• Define and document MDM architectural standards, principles, and best practices.
• Assist in creating strategic MDM roadmaps and implementation plans.
• Ensure governance and stewardship processes are integrated into MDM solutions.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data modelers, database administrators, ETL developers, and analysts.
• Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams on data architecture initiatives.
• Present architecture recommendations, strategy roadmaps, and technology decisions to executive and non-technical audiences.
• Promote best practices across data integration, transformation, and information management functions.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Modeling, Database Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Erwin Data Modeler in large enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise with Oracle Database (on-premises), including:
• Advanced SQL and PL/SQL
• Data modeling and schema design
• Partitioning and indexing strategies
• Performance tuning and optimization
• Proven experience designing solutions that support large-scale data environments ranging from GB to multi-TB data volumes.
• Deep understanding of:
• Data Modeling methodologies
• Normalization and denormalization
• Referential integrity
• Dimensional modeling (Star/Snowflake)
• Experience developing enterprise data governance standards and metadata management frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of data movement and integration technologies, including ETL, APIs, Middleware, and OLAP solutions.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent documentation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within regulated industries such as Utilities, Financial Services, Insurance, or Healthcare.
• Previous leadership or mentoring experience within data architecture or modeling teams.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or other modern database platforms.
• Familiarity with data governance and metadata management platforms such as Collibra, Alation, ER/Studio, or PowerDesigner.
• Exposure to hybrid cloud and on-premises data architectures.
• Experience designing Data Target Operating Models (TOM).
• Experience with Denodo data virtualization.
• Exposure to Hadoop ecosystems.
• Industry certifications such as:
• CDMP
• DAMA
• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
• Other relevant Data Architecture certifications
