About the job

Company Description TEN (The Efficiency Network) is an independent energy services company that delivers efficiency and resilience projects for government, K-12, higher education, healthcare, and large commercial customers. The organization focuses on making buildings more efficient, cities smarter, and operations more resilient through innovative engineering and technology solutions. TEN emphasizes responsiveness, reduced bureaucracy, and alignment with client priorities when planning and executing projects. As part of the Duquesne Light Holdings, Inc. (DLH) family of companies, TEN has the resources to deliver, finance, and guarantee a wide range of projects and technology applications. This combination of technical expertise and financial backing offers team members the opportunity to work on impactful, large-scale energy and infrastructure initiatives.

Role Description The Sr Mechanical Engineer will lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems for energy efficiency, building modernization, and infrastructure projects across the Washington DC–Baltimore area. This full-time hybrid role involves developing mechanical concepts, performing load calculations, specifying equipment, and preparing detailed drawings and technical documentation, while coordinating some work from home with regular on-site collaboration. Daily responsibilities include working closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate existing facilities, identify improvement opportunities, and translate client requirements into practical engineering solutions. The Sr Mechanical Engineer will support project scoping and budgeting, assist in proposal development, and provide technical oversight during installation and commissioning. The role also includes mentoring less experienced engineers, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and contributing to continuous improvement and innovation in mechanical design practices.

Qualifications

  • Strong Mechanical Engineering foundation with experience in building systems, HVAC, and energy efficiency applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Machine Design and mechanical component selection for commercial and institutional facilities.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for creating detailed drawings, models, and documentation.
  • Proven Project Management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, stakeholder coordination, and risk management.
  • Experience in Research and Development (R&D), including evaluating new technologies and developing innovative engineering solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree or professional licensure (PE) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and guidelines (e.g., ASHRAE, building codes, energy codes).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment.
  • Experience in the energy services, utilities, or building performance sectors is beneficial.
