About Invene:
Invene is a boutique consultancy that helps payers, providers, and HealthTech companies create transformational software. Our entirely U.S. development based team is highly specialized, focusing only on healthcare projects. This allows us to securely handle PHI and create differentiated IP that clients own. Since our founding, we have been a remote-first company and intend to stay that way.

About the Role:
A forward-deployed engineer works inside a client engagement. You'll take Invene's existing production gen AI software and adapt it to that client's data and needs, then help improve that software for every client that comes after.

We work by a simple pattern: reuse, adapt, build. Reuse what already runs in production, adapt it with the client's content, and keep new builds deliberately thin. The work includes:

• Configuring our document extraction for each client's data
• Tuning and validating results with real measurements
• Standing up solutions in the client's environment
• Maintaining our shared software and helping develop new components as client work reveals the need

What we're looking for
A thinker who ships: not someone who only theorizes, and not someone who only implements. We weigh three things most: working knowledge of how gen AI behaves, honest experimental judgment, and confidence in front of clients.

We're hiring at two levels:

• Senior: makes the technical calls on an engagement, designs the experiments behind those calls, and leads development of shared components.
• Mid-level: implements under a senior's direction, runs experiments, and reports results honestly. This level exists to grow future seniors, so a real appetite for experimental work is a must.

Required

• Hands-on experience shipping features that call AI models
• Working knowledge of embeddings and retrieval
• Genuine curiosity about how AI models behave, and the habit of testing it
• Experience designing or running experiments to evaluate AI output
• Solid grasp of AI and machine learning fundamentals
• Routine, daily use of AI coding tools
• Comfortable presenting your own work

Additionally for Senior

• Track record of making technical decisions backed by evidence
• Strong instinct for adapting existing systems over rebuilding them
• Able to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders

Client-Facing Work:
· Join client working meetings
· Demo your own work on camera
· Pair with client engineers
· Explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders

The Interview
We start with a conversation, then later rounds may include a live demo of your work, a worked experiment, and a code review.
