Description

The QA Analyst will perform end-to-end IV&V activities for all across legacy mainframe and modernized Linux-based platforms. This role ensures that all programming changes, data transformations, and releases are thoroughly tested, validated, and documented, supporting a high degree of accuracy, integrity, and reliability for IRS enforcement revenue data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform independent verification and validation (IV&V) of all ERIS programming modifications and enhancements across all platforms (IBM mainframe and Linux-based environments).
  • Plan, execute, and document testing for each January software release and additional modifications throughout the year.
  • Test software and processes as ERIS components are transitioned from the mainframe environment to the Linux/SAP Data Services environment.
  • Certify software configurations and verify proper deployment of application components.
  • Review and validate statistics outputs to ensure accuracy and consistency of system results.
  • Conduct ad hoc investigations into data transformation and replication activities; analyze suspected data anomalies and recommend remediation actions.
  • Perform post-production validation, including review of production statistics reports and verification of results for each production run.
  • Execute segmentation testing as needed to confirm correct behavior for specific data segments or business populations.
  • Test ERIS reports and stored procedures on the Compliance Data Warehouse (CDW) impacted by annual January changes and in-year programming changes.
  • Develop and execute system test plans, test cases, and test scripts for data validation and functional verification.
  • Document test results, defects, and issues clearly and comprehensively; track defects through resolution.
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, database administrators, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, understand changes, and validate outcomes.

Qualifications

Required

  • BS and 5 years of overall experience (4 years experience in lieu of degree)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust requiring U.S. Citizenship or Green Card.
  • Experience with SQL and SAP Data Services ETL scripts (Extract, Transform, Load).
  • Experience running data extracts in DB2 (e.g., creating tables and extracting data).
  • Basic knowledge of COBOL (ability to read and write simple COBOL programs).
  • Knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language) for data extraction and sorting.
  • Knowledge of IBM utilities such as SORT and IEBGENER.
  • Knowledge of FTP for data transfer and file movement.
  • Knowledge of Python (ability to read and understand code).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365 applications (Excel, SharePoint, Word, Access) to create reports, analyze data, and develop documentation.
  • Hands-on experience performing system testing activities, including

  • Writing system test plans

  • Developing data validation processes

  • Executing system test cases and/or scripts

  • Documenting system defects and test results

Desired

  • Experience with IRS, federal financial, or large-scale revenue/financial systems.
  • Familiarity with Sybase IQ or similar columnar database technologies.
  • Experience working on modernization or migration projects from mainframe to open systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, especially related to data quality and data transformation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
