About the job
Doplex Labs is a stealth applied AI lab building tools that give people their attention back. Our first product is Belay, which helps coding agents stop repeating the same mistakes. Our second is Rotty, a free Chrome extension that hides AI slop, spam, bots and engagement bait on Reddit, X and LinkedIn. Rotty is now live on the Chrome Web Store.
Rotty reads each post the way a person would and folds low-effort content into a single line that says why. It runs on the user's ChatGPT plan, a free API key, or a small model that runs entirely in the browser. An open-source version, Rotty Lite, is available on GitHub under the MIT license.
The role
We just launched Rotty, and we're looking for a Growth Engineer to get it in front of the people who need it and scale it as they arrive. You'll work directly with the founders, split roughly between building and distribution: shipping improvements, growing our open-source community, and finding the channels where Rotty spreads.
This is a volunteer role to start. If Doplex Labs joins an accelerator such as Y Combinator or a16z speedrun, or raises funding, it can transition to become a paid founding engineer role with equity. We'll be straightforward with you about timelines and progress throughout.
What you'll do
- Grow Rotty's installs and active users: launch on Hacker News, Product Hunt, Reddit, X and more; write posts, threads and demos; find and test new channels
- Build and maintain Rotty Lite, our open-source version: review issues and pull requests, write docs, and make it easy to contribute
- Talk to users: collect feedback, spot what's missing, and turn it into improvements
- Ship features and fixes in the extension, especially support for new sites
- Help prepare accelerator and grant applications with metrics and demos
What we're looking for
- You have built something people use and you are AI-native (side projects count)
- You're active in at least one online community and understand how things spread there
- You write clearly and enjoy explaining technical things simply
- You care about the problem: feeds full of filler, bots and bait
- You can commit 8–15 hours a week and work independently
Nice to have
- Experience with Chrome extensions, LLM APIs or local models (Ollama, WebGPU)
- Open-source maintainer or contributor experience
- An audience on X, LinkedIn, Reddit or a blog
- Prior launches on Product Hunt or Hacker News
What you get
- Real ownership and visible impact on a newly launched product, with your name on the work
- Direct mentorship and decision-making alongside the founders
- Public, attributable open-source contributions
- A clear path to a paid founding engineer role with equity if we join an accelerator or raise funding
- Flexible, remote, async-friendly hours
To fast-track your application
Rotty is live on the Chrome Web Store. Show us how you'd improve it and get it in front of people:
- Try it. Install Rotty and use it on Reddit, X or LinkedIn for a few days.
- Get others to try it. Share Rotty with friends, communities or your audience, and ask what they think.
- Bring us an improvements sheet. A Google Sheet with what you and the people you reached found: what worked, what broke, what's confusing, and what's missing. Rank the top 5 and say how you'd fix each one.
Include in your application: the sheet, where you shared Rotty and why you picked those channels, and how many people tried it.
Bonus (optional): open a pull request on Rotty Lite that fixes one of the problems on your sheet.
The best applications show real feedback from real users, not just your own opinion.
