Design it. Build it. See it come to life.
Are you a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys designing machinery rather than simply modifying existing products?
Boston Conveyor & Automation (BCA), part of the Mpac Group, is growing, and we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Newburyport, MA. You'll have the opportunity to take real ownership of your designs, developing custom automation solutions including robotic work cells, conveyor systems and automated process machinery for customers across food manufacturing, life sciences and general manufacturing.
If you enjoy solving engineering challenges, designing complex machinery and seeing your ideas progress from concept through to manufacture and installation, we'd like to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of our Engineering team, you'll work closely with colleagues across mechanical and controls engineering, project management, applications, sales and manufacturing.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing customer drawings and specifications to understand project requirements and determine design feasibility.
- Designing and developing custom machinery using SolidWorks.
- Carrying out engineering calculations including stress and load analysis, chain pull and speed requirements.
- Ensuring designs meet relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
- Refining designs following engineering and design reviews.
- Working directly with suppliers on component selection and requirements.
- Collaborating with purchasing, quality, production, fabrication, controls, welding, finishing and assembly teams.
- Managing your workload and communicating project progress, priorities and challenges.
- Occasionally travelling to customer sites for project evaluation, measurements and installation support.
What We're Looking For
We're ideally looking for someone with at least 2 years of relevant engineering experience who enjoys taking ownership and applying practical engineering thinking to complex machinery.
You'll bring:
- Experience designing complex machinery using SolidWorks.
- Experience working with AutoCAD, particularly facility layouts.
- Good knowledge of machine and process design.
- A strong understanding of machinery safety standards.
- The ability to manage priorities and deliver within tight project timescales.
- An Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent two-year college qualification, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred. Relevant industry experience will also be considered.
Nice to have:
An apprenticeship background in mechanical or mechatronic engineering followed by hands-on design experience would be an advantage.
Why join BCA?
This is an opportunity to join a growing automation business where engineers can have genuine input into the machinery they create. Rather than working on the same product every day, you'll help develop custom automation solutions designed around individual customer requirements.
You'll also receive a comprehensive benefits package including:
- Health insurance
- Dental & vision insurance
- Life insurance
- 401(k) with company matching
- Paid vacation, holidays and sick time
At Mpac, our values of Integrity, Drive, Collaboration, Expertise and Innovation guide how we work together and deliver for our customers.
