Backend & Data Engineer(Junior - Mid Level)

About the Role

Avenrix Services is looking for a Backend & Data Engineer to contribute to an active enterprise client project involving backend systems, data processing, search, and AI-assisted workflows.

The role is focused on backend development, database performance, APIs, data synchronization, reliability, and production troubleshooting.

You’ll work within an existing engineering environment, so we’re looking for someone who can understand unfamiliar systems, investigate problems independently, learn quickly, and take ownership of assigned work.

The core environment includes Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, AWS, search infrastructure, and AI/data workflows.

What You’ll Work On

• Build and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
• Develop and improve REST APIs and backend workflows
• Work extensively with PostgreSQL and SQL
• Investigate and improve slow queries and data-access patterns
• Support ETL, data pipelines, and data movement between systems
• Keep data synchronized across source systems and downstream services
• Handle retries, duplicate processing, idempotency, reconciliation, and failure scenarios
• Debug backend, database, and production issues
• Improve reliability and data consistency
• Work with AWS-based services and deployments
• Use logs, metrics, and traces to troubleshoot production behavior
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews
• Collaborate with engineers working on search, data, and AI-related functionality
• Suggest improvements to existing technical approaches when appropriate

Requirements

• Around 1–4 years of professional software development experience, or strong equivalent project experience
• Good JavaScript / TypeScript fundamentals
• Backend development experience with Node.js or a similar backend framework
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Experience with PostgreSQL or a similar database
• Understanding of REST APIs
• Familiarity with Git and normal software-development workflows
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Ability to understand an existing codebase and architecture
• Comfortable working independently on assigned tasks
• Reliable communication and follow-through
• Open to technical feedback and willing to improve quickly
• Able to learn unfamiliar tools and technologies when needed

Data, Search & AI

The project includes enterprise search and AI-assisted knowledge workflows.

You do not need to be an ML specialist, but familiarity with any of the following is useful:

• RAG / retrieval-based AI systems
• Search and retrieval
• OpenSearch / Elasticsearch
• Chunking and re-ranking
• LLM applications
• Data pipelines
• Working with data-science or ML teams
• Access-controlled or permission-based data

Observability & Reliability

Experience with production monitoring and troubleshooting is valuable.

Useful technologies include:

• OpenTelemetry
• Datadog
• Splunk
• Prometheus
• Grafana
• Structured logging
• Distributed tracing
• Metrics and alerting

You do not need experience with every tool, but you should understand how logs, metrics, and traces can be used to diagnose production problems.

Perfect English is not required, but you should be able to understand technical discussions and explain your own work clearly.
