Job Description
Involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data. Designs and conducts research including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, and developing recommendations based on research findings. Prepares reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.
Generic Scope
Entry-level professional with limited prior experience; learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity; works on assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. Employees at this level are expected to acquire the skills and knowledge to perform more advanced work following an agreed upon time in position, through defined training and development planning.
Custom Scope
Under direct supervision, the incumbent acquires skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis and works on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity.
The incumbent performs basic statistical and data analysis and supports the collection, preparation, cleaning, and review of research data for analysis and inclusion in reports.
The incumbent assists with report preparation and data analysis for internal constituents and supports the evaluation and research of data reporting products. The position uses data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, Jaspersoft, Power BI, and other relevant platforms, with an expectation of developing proficiency in tools appropriate to assigned projects and reporting needs.
The position requires familiarity with SQL and data platforms such as Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar systems, as well as familiarity with scripting and analytical tools such as Python, R, or comparable technologies. The incumbent applies foundational technical and analytical skills while continuing to develop knowledge of data analysis, reporting, visualization, and related tools under direct supervision.
Department Overview
The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) is the only cancer center in the Bay Area to receive the prestigious designation of “comprehensive” from the National Cancer Institute. We combine basic science, clinical research, epidemiology, cancer control and patient care throughout the University of California, San Francisco. Currently, the HDFCCC conducts over 700 clinical trials across various departments.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.
- Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties.
- Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.
- Basic consultation and communication skills.
