About the job
About the job
At SignSetu, we are dedicated to transforming Deaf education through our innovative learning platform. Our mission is to empower Deaf learners and promote their educational growth.
Joining SignSetu means more than writing code, it means amplifying voices that have been too quiet for too long. You’ll collaborate with an inclusive team that celebrates diverse perspectives, ships features that land in real classrooms, and measures success by the smiles and “aha!” moments of Deaf learners across India.
This isn’t a role where you’ll just click buttons and fill out test cases. You’ll get exposure to the actual codebase, learn how modern full-stack applications work, write automated tests, inspect APIs and databases, and help build better QA practices from the ground up.
We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse team at SignSetu. We believe that talent and skills come in various forms, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and categories as long as they possess the passion and dedication required for the position.
What You’ll Do
- Own QA for new features — test everything from UI interactions and user flows to APIs, databases, authentication, and edge cases before features reach users.
- Break the product (in a good way) — actively explore unexpected scenarios, find bugs, identify usability issues, and think about how real students and teachers might use the product differently than expected.
- Build automated tests using tools like Playwright, Vitest, or Jest to protect critical user journeys and prevent regressions.
- Test across the full stack — inspect network requests, API responses, database records, browser behavior, and application logs to understand what's actually happening under the hood.
- Own product QA, not just code QA — evaluate whether a feature actually solves the intended problem, feels intuitive, and works well for real learners and educators.
- Work directly with developers and product to reproduce issues, investigate root causes, verify fixes, and improve features based on real-world feedback.
- Help shape our QA culture — improve test cases, regression checklists, release processes, and automation as the product grows.
Technical Must-Haves
- Pursuing/completed a CS-related degree or equivalent self-taught experience (we give more importance to practical experience).
- Basic understanding of web development — HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTTP, APIs, and how frontend/backend applications communicate.
- Familiarity with React or Next.js and enough JavaScript/TypeScript knowledge to understand application behavior and debug issues.
- Comfortable using Git/GitHub and working with pull requests.
- Basic understanding of SQL/databases and CRUD operations.
- Ability to use browser DevTools to inspect network requests, console errors, storage, and application behavior.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to reproduce bugs systematically.
- Willingness to learn automated testing and tools such as Playwright, Jest, or Vitest.
Soft-Skill Superpowers
- Curiosity — you naturally ask “what happens if I do this?”
- Attention to detail — you notice the small things that others miss.
- Problem-solving mindset — treat bugs as puzzles rather than simply reporting that something is broken.
- Clear communication — explain bugs in a way that makes them easy for developers to reproduce and fix.
- Ownership — follow an issue from discovery through verification rather than simply throwing it over the wall.
- User empathy — think about how a real student or teacher would experience the product, not just whether a test technically passes.
- Adaptability — requirements change, products evolve, and good QA evolves with them.
- Collaboration — work closely with developers, product, design, and operations.
- Learning mindset — you don't need to know every testing tool on day one, we care about how quickly you can learn and apply new concepts.
Nice-to-Have Extras
- Live projects (share links!) If you have real building experience, then we encourage you to apply.
- Experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Jest, or Vitest.
- ML/AI Deployment Experience.
- CI/CD exposure (GitHub Actions, Vercel Deploy Hooks).
- Experience debugging production web applications.
What Makes the Culture Cool
- We believe work should energize, not exhaust. At SignSetu you won’t be judged by how long you sit in front of a screen but by the impact your code makes in Deaf classrooms.
- Impact > Hours: We care about outcomes, not timecards. Hit your goals, then take the evening off.
- Zero micromanagement: You’ll have a mentor, not a manager breathing down your neck.
- Room to grow: Start with manual QA and gradually take ownership of automated testing, API testing, regression suites, and QA infrastructure.
- Transparent roadmaps: Everyone sees the product backlog and can pitch ideas, interns included.
- Your ideas matter: If you discover a better way to test something, automate something, or improve the product, we want to hear it.
This is a paid full-time internship position with a duration of 4 months, starting immediately. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the Deaf community and play an active role in improving Deaf education. We provide a stipend, Certificate, Letter of Recommendation, extensive learning opportunities, and the chance to make a direct social impact on the education of Deaf students.
If you enjoy breaking things, figuring out why they broke, and making sure they don't break again, we'd love to hear from you.
