About the job
Ankra Health is an early-stage health technology company and Public Benefit Corporation engineering simulation-backed predictive platforms for personalized health optimization. We are bridging the gap between static wellness tracking and reactive care by building software that translates continuous biometric telemetry and laboratory data into prospective, physiological decision models. Supported by regional accelerators and backed by non-dilutive federal R&D funding initiatives (NSF SBIR Phase I), we are assembling a team of engineers and scientists to scale our cloud-native infrastructure.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Full-Stack & Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to serve as the Lead Software Architect for our upcoming federal grant performance period. In this role, you will lead the architecture, containerization, and cloud deployment of our Python-based inference microservices and relational data pipelines.
This position is structured as a Contingent Key Hire. You will collaborate with the founders now to finalize technical specifications for our pending award submission. Upon award activation, you will step into a funded 6-month key engineering role with a direct pathway to equity and a full-time Lead Architect position as we scale into Phase II.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud & Microservice Architecture: Design, containerize (Docker), and deploy high-throughput Python microservices on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to interface between scientific inference layers and user-facing applications.
- Data Layer Management: Architect and optimize secure, HIPAA-compliant relational database schemas (GCP Cloud SQL / MySQL) to ingest, clean, and store high-frequency wearable time-series data, episodic lab results, and versioned graph parameters.
- API Middleware & Integration: Build and maintain robust REST and gRPC API middleware to connect the backend inference engine with a cross-platform React Native frontend.
- System Validation & Security: Implement strict API-level data validation logic to enforce boundary constraints, automate load-testing across high-concurrency simulation streams, and maintain strict data security and compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated mastery of Python (FastAPI, Flask, PyMC, or NumPy/Pandas stacks).
- Deep Hands-on GCP Experience: Proven track record deploying production workloads on Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, GCP Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, Artifact Registry, IAM, Cloud Build).
- API & Database Engineering: Strong expertise in relational database design (MySQL/PostgreSQL), ORM frameworks, and building production-grade REST/gRPC APIs.
- ML/Data Science Integration: Experience wrapping computational, statistical, or machine learning models into scalable, containerized microservices.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- Previous experience in Health Tech, Digital Health, or building HIPAA / SOC2 compliant cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with cross-platform mobile development (React Native) or front-end state management.
- Experience handling asynchronous time-series data or wearable telemetry APIs (e.g., Apple HealthKit, Health Gorilla, or Particle Health).
Engagement Structure
Phase 1 (Pre-Award / Current): Short screening interview, technical review, and signing a formal Letter of Commitment to be named as Key Personnel on our pending federal grant proposal.
Phase 2 (Grant Performance Period): Fully funded part-time engagement (~20 hours/week over 6 months) to execute the software build and microservice integration.
Phase 3 (Post-Phase I Scale): Transition opportunity into a full-time Lead Architect / VP of Engineering role upon Phase II commercial rollout.
How to Apply
Submit your resume or LinkedIn profile along with a short summary of your experience building Python microservices or GCP data pipelines. Selected candidates will participate in a 30-minute introductory call with Founder & PI Dr. Barima Opong-Owusu.
