About the job
The role
You will take hands-on ownership of critical areas of the SpotlightNews iOS app. The immediate priorities are signup and sign-in reliability, onboarding, feed and application performance, deep links, analytics, and App Store release readiness.
This is a strong fit for someone who is comfortable entering an existing codebase, diagnosing problems quickly, and delivering focused improvements without unnecessary rewrites.
Responsibilities
Build, maintain, and improve our production iOS application
Diagnose and resolve crashes, performance issues, and unreliable user flows
Strengthen signup, authentication, onboarding, and account access
Improve feed speed, scrolling performance, pagination, and state handling
Maintain critical deep links and university access flows
Implement polished interfaces from approved Figma designs
Add clear loading, empty, error, and success states
Maintain analytics needed to understand product health and user behavior
Support App Store submissions and release readiness
Collaborate directly with product, design, backend, Android, web, and QA partners
Review existing implementation patterns before introducing new architecture
Communicate progress, tradeoffs, blockers, and release risks clearly
What we’re looking for
4+ years of professional iOS development experience
Strong command of Swift and the iOS SDK
Production experience with SwiftUI and UIKit
Experience working with REST APIs, authentication, pagination, and asynchronous networking
Strong understanding of application architecture, state management, concurrency, and persistence
Demonstrated ability to diagnose crashes, memory issues, and performance bottlenecks
Experience with analytics, push notifications, universal links, and App Store releases
Familiarity with accessibility, responsive layouts, dark mode, and platform conventions
Comfort improving an existing production codebase under real deadlines
Strong product judgment and attention to detail
Clear written and verbal communication
Nice to have
Experience with news, media, content feeds, subscriptions, advertising, or consumer mobile products
Experience with Firebase, Mixpanel, or comparable analytics and monitoring tools
Knowledge of sponsored content and mobile advertising integrations
Experience working across iOS, Android, web, and backend teams
Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and release automation
What success looks like
Within the first several weeks, you will understand the current application architecture, resolve high-priority stability issues, improve the reliability of core user journeys, and help establish a predictable path to the next iOS release.
